FAQ

My child has been struggling with reading and other subjects for a while. How would an evaluation help my child?

A comprehensive Learning Style Inventory Assessment will assess and consider your child’s strengths and weaknesses in the following areas: learning ability/general intelligence, academic skills, social-emotional functioning, developmental and medical history, communication (if warranted), and executive functioning skills. By obtaining a complete picture of your child’s functioning in these areas, you’ll better understand your child’s learning difficulties and what they’ll need to succeed.

Does my insurance pay for psycho-educational evaluations?

Unfortunately, most insurances do not reimburse for psycho-educational assessments as testing for learning disabilities is not considered a medical necessity. We do not bill your insurance for assessments conducted. We will provide you with a super bill that you can submit to your insurance company, as some of the costs may be reimbursed.

If, as a result of the assessment, your child requires additional services such as communication/speech and language services, those may be covered by your insurance company.

Does the evaluation automatically mean my child will get the services he/she needs at school?

It is up to the educational team (teacher, principal, PARENT, and learning specialist) to determine if your child is eligible for services. The educational team will usually review the documents and convene the child’s school team to determine eligibility. The educational team should review the results and decides the best next steps for your child within the school setting.

Do you conduct ADHD testing?

Here at the Center for Student Potential and Growth®, we conduct comprehensive evaluations, meaning no one test is used for diagnostic purposes. We administer a battery of assessments to uncover attention deficits. We will conduct an intake interview, conduct several individual assessments (including self, parent, and teacher reports, when appropriate) and use that information to determine if you or your child/student presents with symptoms associated with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. From there, recommendations are provided regarding support that may benefit you or your child.

Do you have services that help students with ADHD or executive functioning skill deficits?

Yes, our clients have benefited from therapy and coaching services that help strengthen executive functioning skills and allow them to access their learning environments more effectively and confidently. Our coaching is virtual only and available once slots open up. ADHD coaching/therapy is a covered service under most insurance companies.
